A guest describes her visit....

Our stay in the Jefferson Davis Room at the Linden House Plantation Bed and Breakfast was a happy blend of antebellum and contemporary Southern hospitality. In the antique-filled bedroom, a portrait of the president of the Confederacy reminded us of Essex County’s Confederate days. The luxurious bath made us appreciate the joys of living in the present.

We awakened to the aroma of coffee brewing, bacon frying and breads baking. Taking our seats in the elegant dining room, we watched the morning sun stream through deep set windows.

The Gazebo at The Linden House Plantation Bed and Breakfast, Champlain, Virginia When they say "a full plantation breakfast" they mean it. We began with goblets of orange juice and crystal plates of apple-spice compotes. Next came fragrant fruited scones and ham biscuits. These are the ham biscuits of Old Virginia - the biscuits are short and flaky and the ham is genuine country. There were more biscuits to spread with butter and jam.

But we had only just begun. Next came our "plantation platters", which were made to order. Ours had a Belgian waffle, ham, quiche and potato puff. Other guests chose omelets or eggs, any style.

After our last cup of coffee, we said goodbye. It was not easy. Linden House seemed to say “Come back." We promised ourselves that we certainly would.

A guest writes....

"The Linden House was everything we were looking for in a quiet little getaway and more! Our objective was to go somewhere alone together and relax without the cats, dog, kids, phone, TV, etc., and not have anything pre-planned. We just wanted to 'go with the flow' and enjoy each other's company. We certainly picked the right spot. One of the things we enjoyed most about our stay was the wonderful ambiance of the home. It was neat, clean, beautifully decorated and had been remodeled a few years ago in an exquisite manner to provide for modern convenience yet retain the flavor and atmosphere of old America. What made our visit complete was the warmth, charm, and friendship extended to us by our hosts. "
